(Migs is flying over Avalor Bay carrying a bag of coconuts. Unbeknownst to him, Luna is flying behind him. She grabs his coconuts as she flies past)
LUNA: I'll take those.
MIGS: Hey, those are my coconuts! Get your own lunch!
LUNA: I just did.
(Luna laughs as she flies away from him. Migs groans as he flies after her. As Migs is about to corner her, Luna throws the coconuts in the air, which are caught by Skylar)
SKYLAR: Too slow!
(Skylar flies away, and Migs and Luna fly after him)
MIGS: Skylar! Give me that!
(Skylar tosses the coconuts back to Luna, who tosses them back to Skylar as Migs tries to catch them)
SKYLAR: Back to you, Luna!
(Skylar throws the coconuts back to Luna)
LUNA: Say what now?
(Luna misses the coconuts, and they crash into a large statue in the middle of a street in Avalor City. The statue begins to crack)
SKYLAR: Oh, it's just a little crack.
(The statue collapses, breaking a hole in the street)
SKYLAR: Now Migs, look what your coconuts did!
LUNA: My coconuts!? You... her.... (groans)
(Luna flies over to the damage, and looks down into the newly formed hole)
LUNA: Uh, guys, there's something down here.
(Skylar and Migs fly over and look into the hole. They see some large gold coins)
MIGS: Buried treasure.
SKYLAR: Buried treasure?
LUNA: Outta my way!
(Luna is about to fly into the hole, but Migs stops her)
MIGS: Whoa. What are you going to do with treasure? You can't even handle coconuts! No, we better alert Princess Elena.
-Scene 2-
(Naomi and Daniel Turner are walking on a dock at the port. Daniel is reading a list)
DANIEL: It's going to be a busy day.
NAOMI: I can help you log in the ships, Dad.
(Just then, Elena arrives at the port in her carriage)
ELENA: Naomi!
(Elena excitedly jumps out of the carriage)
DANIEL: Majesty.
ELENA: (to Daniel) Harbor Master. (to Naomi) We have an emergency Grand Council meeting. The Jaquins found buried treasure!
NAOMI: (nervously) Oh! Um...
DANIEL: (to Naomi) Go on. The Grand Council needs you.
NAOMI: Thanks, Dad.
(Elena and Naomi climb into the carriage)
-Scene 3-
(Elena and Naomi arrive at the hole in the street where Luisa, Francisco, and Esteban are waiting. The area of the street that has the hole is closed off to by passers. Elena and Naomi climb out of the carriage)
ELENA: Oh, great. The rest of the council is here.
FRANCISCO: Professor Mendoza is examining the site right now.
(Professor Mendoza climbs on her ladder out of the hole. Esteban offers his hand to help her climb out)
ESTEBAN: Allow me, Professor.
MENDOZA: Oh, thanks, Chancellor.
(Professor Mendoza chucks her backpack into Esteban's arms as she climbs out of the hole herself)
ELENA: Thank you for coming down here on such short notice, Professor Mendoza. What can you tell us about the treasure?
MENDOZA: We have a lot more on our hands than buried treasure. It's an ancient Maruvian chamber, the likes of which I've never seen.
NAOMI: Really? That is so cool!
ESTEBAN: It is not cool if you're trying to get to the Via Mercado. This is a busy street. I recommend we remove anything valuable, and repair the road immediately.
MENDOZA: The road doesn't matter, Chancellor. What matters is our history. The Maruvians lived here for hundreds of years before us, then disappeared without a trace. I've spent my life documenting every Maruvian ruin in my atlas of Maru, but this chamber is special. We should take the time to properly explore it.
ESTEBAN: Do you expect us to stop everything and dig up an old ruin in the middle of the city?
MENDOZA: I don't expect you to do anything. I can dig it up myself.
NAOMI: I'm with Professor Mendoza. If we can discover something new about our past, it's worth the traffic jam.
ESTEBAN: (to Naomi) Miss Turner, you are hardly qualified to decide such matters.
FRANCISCO: (to Esteban) She's on the Grand Council just like you.
ESTEBAN: But she's not just like me, or the rest of us! (to Naomi) You are not a royal. You know nothing about governing a kingdom. You have no decrees, no accomplishments. Until Elena put you on the council, you were merely a girl from the port.
ELENA: Esteban! Naomi is perfectly qualified to be on the council. In fact, not only are we going to explore the ruin, but I'm putting Naomi in charge of the dig.
NAOMI AND ESTEBAN: You are?
ELENA: That's right. Naomi will work with Professor Mendoza starting, um... When can you start, Professor Mendoza?
MENDOZA: First thing in the morning.
ELENA: First thing in the morning.
ESTEBAN: Then I suppose I will see you tomorrow. Someone will have to clean up whatever mess Naomi makes.
-Scene 3-
(Elena and Naomi are riding in the carriage. Naomi appears to be upset.)
ELENA: Don't worry about Esteban. I'll come to the dig too if it'll make you feel better. What is it?
NAOMI: All that stuff Esteban said about me not belonging on the Grand Council. What if he's right?
ELENA: He's wrong, Naomi. And tomorrow, you're gonna prove it to him.
NAOMI: You're right. I will.

(Professor Mendoza flips through her Atlas of Maru)
MENDOZA: Aha! It's a Duende.
ELENA: A what?
MENDOZA: (reading her Atlas) Duendes are mischievous elves from another realm, or so the legend goes. It is said that three Duende brothers came to Avalor many years ago, causing mayhem wherever they went. Finally, a wizard caught the Duende brothers, and locked them in three separate chambers to keep them apart.
(Esteban walks over to Naomi as she continues to chip away the crystal wall)
ESTEBAN: No no no. You are doing it all wrong. It will take us a year to get through the wall if you go that slowly.
NAOMI: You heard what Professor Mendoza said.
ESTEBAN: Yes, but I took an archaeology class as part of my royal training. So if you want to see what's behind that wall anytime soon, you'll hand over your pick.
NAOMI: (sighs) Fine. Here.
(Naomi hands Esteban the pickax)
ESTEBAN: Now, watch and learn.
(Esteban hammers the pickax into the crystal wall)
MENDOZA: What did you do?!

ELENA: Did you hear that?
NAOMI: It sounded like giggling.
ELENA: What is that?
MENDOZA: It's a duende. This must be one of the chambers.

MENDOZA: We have to catch him before he frees his brothers. The other two chambers are right here in Avalor City.

NAOMI: Me? You were the one who broke the wall.
ESTEBAN: Ah, but you are the one in charge, are you not? Do not worry, Miss Turner. As I said yesterday, I will clean up your mess.

ESTEBAN: (to Professor Mendoza) I, uh, retrieved your book.
(They hear a crashing sound coming from inside the pyramid)

ELENA: (to Esteban) She's right. And the Duende used your iron rod to get in here.
(Naomi examines another gold picture on a wall)
ESTEBAN: Anyway, with two Duendes on the loose, we have no choice but to alert the palace.
MENDOZA: That'll be easy, since the third Duende chamber is behind the palace waterfall.
ELENA: I know a shortcut.
NAOMI: You guys should really take a look at these glyphs.
ESTEBAN: (annoyed) Ay, no, again with the pictures.
(Elena and Professor Mendoza walk over to Naomi)
ELENA: What is it?
NAOMI: I saw the same thing in the last Duende chamber. Whatever it says was important enough to etch in solid gold.
MENDOZA: You're right. It's a warning.
ELENA: What kind of warning?
MENDOZA: It says the three Duendes are the gatekeepers, each one bearing a magic gem. When all three gems are put together, they form a key that will unlock a tunnel to the Duende world, allowing hundreds, no, wait, thousands of Duendes to enter Avalor.
ESTEBAN: So the situation is actually worse than we thought. They aren't just a nuisance, they want to invade Avalor. And we've given them a head start. (sarcastically) Well done, Miss Turner.
NAOMI: We can still stop them. They haven't freed the third Duende yet. (to Elena) You said you knew a shortcut to the last chamber?
ELENA: Sure do. Follow me.
-Scene 6-
(Elena leads Naomi, Esteban, and Professor Mendoza to a place in the woods near the palace. There is a ruin on the ground)
MENDOZA: Here we are.
ESTEBAN: I don't see a ruin.
MENDOZA: You're standing on it.
(When Esteban looks down, he realizes that he's standing on a ruin)
MENDOZA: I thought it was just a carved slab, but it must be a door.
ELENA: Well, it looks like we beat the Duendes here. So how do we stop them?
ESTEBAN: I will summon the Royal Guard.
NAOMI: They may not get here in time. And the Duendes can go all invisible on us, so that makes it even trickier.
ESTEBAN: Do you have a better idea?
(Naomi looks at the fishing net, and then at an overhead tree)
NAOMI: Huh. My father used to say catching spiny lobster is all about figuring out which hot spot they'll be at, and having the right trap.
ESTEBAN: That would be great advice, if we were spiny lobster fishing.
NAOMI: But we are fishing, for Duendes. And we're standing on the perfect hot spot.
ELENA: Okay. So what should we do?
NAOMI: Hmm. I can build a trap with the nest and these branches, hang it from the tree with those vines. Then, we hide in the bushes and drop it on the Duendes when they get to the hatch.
ESTEBAN: Ha! That will never work.
(Naomi appears discouraged)
ELENA: I guess we'll find out.
(Naomi smiles at Elena)
-Scene 7-
(One of the Duendes arrives at the woods. He jumps up and down excitedly on the hatch on the ground. Elena, Naomi, Esteban, and Professor Mendoza secretly watch him from the bushes. Naomi holds a vine that is connected to a trap over the Duende's head. The Duende uses Esteban's iron rod to try to pry the hatch open)
ESTEBAN: (whispering) (to Naomi) Psst. Hey. What are you waiting for? Drop the trap.
NAOMI: (whispering) Not yet. His brother's not there.
ESTEBAN: (whispering) He's probably there but invisible. You're going to miss them both.
NAOMI: (whispering) No, I won't.
ESTEBAN: (whispering) I'm not waiting!
(Esteban takes the vine from Naomi)
NAOMI: (whispering) Esteban!
(Esteban pulls the vine and the fishing net falls on the Duende)
ESTEBAN: I got you, Duendes! Huh? But where is the other one?
(The other Duende sneaks up from behind them and frees his brother from the fishing net. They then toss the fishing net on Elena, Naomi, Esteban, and Professor Mendoza. The two Duendes then use the iron rod to pry the hatch open. Once it's open, one of the Duendes uses the iron rod to break the crystal wall. Another Duende merges from inside the hatch)
ELENA: (gasps) It's the third Duende brother!
(The jewels around the three Duendes' necks begin to glow)
ESTEBAN: (angrily) You Duendes!
(Esteban stands up and attempts to walk toward the Duendes with the net still over the four of them)
NAOMI: No, wait! The net!
(Esteban trips on a rock and falls in the hatch. The net pulls Naomi, Elena, and Professor Mendoza in the hatch too. The Duendes watch before running away. After the four of them get out of the net, Elena attempts to climb out of hatch, but fails)
ELENA: It's too steep.
ESTEBAN: I was wrong, Naomi. You are a great leader. You are leading thousands of Duendes right into our kingdom! This is what we get for following her.
ELENA: But you haven't been following her, Esteban. You were the one who let the first Duende out, you ignored Naomi at the park, and you sprung the trap too early. The problem hasn't been Naomi; it's been you.
MENDOZA: (to Esteban) Yeah, I guess you were never royally trained in listening.
NAOMI: It doesn't matter what Esteban did. I was the one in charge, so I'm the one to blame. I was in such a rush to make a big discovery, to do something special, that I let him knock the wall down. And then I didn't stand up to him, like a good leader would've. I wanted to prove that I belonged on the Grand Council, but it turns out, I'm just a girl from the port.
ELENA: (to Naomi) You belong on the Grand Council as much as any of us. You're smart, brave, resourceful. I mean, you were the one who had all the good ideas when it came to catching the Duendes.
NAOMI: What good will all that do us now, stuck down here?
ELENA: Because I'm counting on you to figure out a way to get us out of here. We need you, Naomi. The kingdom needs you.
NAOMI: Okay. I need the net and a piece of crystal.
-Scene 8-
(Skylar, Luna, and Migs fly over the port)
MIGS: You guys still owe me a bag of coconuts, ya know.
(Skylar notices the three Duendes causing trouble below them)
SKYLAR: Hey, what's going on down there?
LUNA: I don't know, but it looks like fun! I mean, trouble.
MIGS: We better inform the palace.
-Scene 9-
(Elena, Naomi, Esteban, and Professor Mendoza are still stuck in the underground hatch. Naomi is using a piece of the broken crystal wall to cut the net)
ESTEBAN: What is cutting the net going to accomplish?
NAOMI: This.
(Naomi tosses the net on the ground, which is now half as wide, but twice as long)
NAOMI: Now it's twice as long.
(Naomi tosses the net so that it can act as a ladders for them to climb out of the hatch)
MENDOZA: Yeah! Nice toss.
ELENA: (to Esteban) Looks like Naomi knows what she's doing, when you let her do it.
NAOMI: Okay, let's get outta here.
-Scene 10-
(Skylar, Luna, and Migs fly overhead near the palace. They see Elena, Naomi, Esteban, and Professor Mendoza below them)
SKYLAR: Hey, look, it's Elena!
(The three Jaquins land in front of them)
LUNA: (to Elena) Princess, we saw these weird little elves down at the port.
MIGS: More like little thieves. They were making off with a bunch of ropes and cargo hooks.
ELENA: Why would they need that stuff?
NAOMI: It's climbing gear.
MENDOZA: There's only one Maruvian ruin on a mountain so steep that you need climbing equipment. The Sun Cliff.
ELENA: That must be where the doorway to their world is.
MENDOZA: Oh, yeah. They're going to unleash all of the Duendes on Avalor.
ELENA: (to Skylar, Luna, and Migs) We need a ride to the Sun Cliff.
SKYLAR: Hop on.
-Scene 11-
(Elena, Naomi, Esteban, and Professor Mendoza are flying on Skylar, Luna, and Migs to the Sun Cliff)
NAOMI: Do you think we beat them here?
(They here a crashing sound coming from inside the Sun Cliff)
ELENA: Nope.
(They enter the Sun Cliff to see the three Duendes combining their jewels to create a key.)
NAOMI: There they are!
(The Duendes put the key in a keyhole and a portal opens to the Duende world)
ESTEBAN: They are coming!
MENDOZA: According to the legend, if we remove the gem key, it will close the tunnel.
NAOMI: Great. (to Elena) You and Professor Mendoza go for the key. (to Esteban) I need you to help me get their climbing ropes.
ESTEBAN: Why?
NAOMI: You'll see why. Just do it.
(As Elena and Professor Mendoza distract the Duendes, Naomi and Esteban sneak up from behind them and take their rope.)
NAOMI: Alright, let's round up some Duendes.
(Naomi uses the rope to lasso the Duendes)
NAOMI: Gotcha.
(The Duendes struggle to get free from the lasso)
NAOMI: Esteban, help me!
